The Story of Wintergreen Solariums, Inc.

The story of Wintergreen Solariums began in 1985 when Lewis Whitaker built a new home and decided that he wanted to include a sunroom. He was unable to find anyone that could provide a sunroom product or install it. Lewis discovered that Four Seasons Sunrooms was perfect for the changing New England weather, taught carpenters the installation process and Wintergreen Solariums, Inc. was born.

Our story continues to evolve into 2005. Lewis’s wife, Janice joined the business in 1987 and today the business has two showrooms, ten employees and seven subcontract teams. The showrooms are located in Portland, Maine, Grand Isle, Vermont and Rye, New Hampshire. The company is owned exclusively by Lewis and Janice.

Wintergreen Solariums Inc. is a full scale remodeling company that specializes in the design and installation of sunrooms, conservatories, patio rooms and greenhouses. The coordination and supervision of the entire project is performed by the company.

In 1997 Lewis and Janice purchased a Franchise for Four Seasons Solar Products. Four Seasons is an International company that provides a mix of eighteen different styles of sunrooms, and is the only company in the world with the patent for “CONSERVAGLASS”. This glass keeps sunrooms cool in the summer sun and warm in winter months and is only available from Four Seasons Solar Products. Four Seasons also offers a “Lifetime Warranty” for their CONSERVAGLASS.

Since the purchase of the Four Seasons Franchise, Wintergreen Solariums, Inc. has been identified as one of the top franchises in the country.

Our business philosophy is simple: Offer our customers a high quality sunroom product with the most efficient glass in the industry and superior installation, all of which adds substantial value to their home.

Meet our Staff

At Wintergreen Solariums Inc. we take great pride in the work we do and in the staff that does it. Each one of us is personally involved in the business and treat each client as if they were a member of our extended family.

Meet Lew & Janice Whitaker the owners of Wintergreen Solariums Inc. Lew & Janice still take a personal interest in every job and every client. “Many of my sunroom clients have become my closest personal friends. You know I have to insist that every job is perfect, because I may be sitting in that room at a friendly get-together in the future.”

Rob Clougherty is our Design Consultant in Maine & Jim Dachos is our Design Consultant in New Hampshire. Wintergreen Solariums Inc. insists that every Design Consultant is fully up-to-date on all the latest advancements at Four Seasons and ensures that every job is sold correctly to ensure that the client gets the most value from their sunroom dollar.

Melanie Tardif is the office manager at Wintergreen Solariums Inc. After you purchase your sunroom from us, it’s Melanie who ensures that all of the paperwork is in order for customers to obtain building permits.

Don Gruden is the production manager at Wintergreen Solariums Inc. Don is key to ensuring that everything goes smoothly on the jobsite. Don also ensures that your room is ordered correctly and as soon as possible. From visiting your site before the room is even ordered to ensuring that the crew know all the specifics of your particular job, it’s up to Don to get all the details perfect.

For over a quarter of a century, Four Seasons has been dedicated to developing the state of the art in sunroom design and innovation. All Four Seasons products are thermally designed to provide maximum comfort from extreme northern climates like Canada and Alaska to extremely hot climates like Arizona and the Middle East. Four Seasons products have been designed and tested to meet and comply with the toughest building codes throughout the country, from heavy snow loads to extreme wind loads.

Four Seasons' exclusive, patented CONSERVAGLASS PLUS™ has continuously achieved a CBA rating (the highest attainable) by certified independent testing laboratories. The exclusive and proprietary coating is produced under ISO 9001-certified designation from the International Organization of Standards.

In addition, Four Seasons structural frames are all 100 percent thermally broken to stop the transfer of outside temperatures to inside surfaces.
